SYNOPSIS OF THE STORY

The Earl of Essex is in love with Queen Elizabeth,

Queen Elizabeth is in love with Sir Walter Raleigh,

whereas Sir Walter is in love with Bessie

Throckmorton. Jill-All-Alone finds a letter from

Raleigh to Bessie and shows it to Essex. Essex

shows the letter to Elizabeth and as a result Raleigh

is banished and Bessie is taken prisoner.

With the help of Jill-All-Alone Bessie escapes

from the Castle and meets Raleigh. Essex who

has followed Bessie now reveals his love for

Elizabeth. With the help of Walter Wilkins and

and a crowd of country people Essex realizes his

ambition, Raleigh and Bessie are pardoned.

This is an entirely Amateur performance.

Note: I have some recollection that Pat Lillico didn’t in fact take part – true??
